Heute bekam ich eine Nachricht von Valentina. Sie schrieb: "Geh bitte gleich ans Telefon, wenn ich dich anrufe. Laura (unsere Ansprechpartnerin bei Auszeit-Weltweit) hat angerufen. Es gibt Probleme." Aha. Das fängt ja super an.
Theoretisch haben wir ein Visum für vier Wochen in Myanmar, doch selbst in der Botschaft teilte man uns mit, dass es kein Problem sei, dies einfach zu überziehen und dann bei der Ausreise eine Nachzahlung zu leisten. Immerhin wollten wir fünf Wochen dort bleiben. Und wenn das in der Botschaft gesagt wird, wird das stimmen. Die Sorge wurde daher aus der Welt geschaffen. Doch aufgrund der aktuellen Unruhen im Land wird momentan sehr akribisch auf die Visa geachtet und man darf es keinesfalls überziehen. Oh.
Laura sagte uns, dass es nun die Möglichkeit für uns gäbe, dass wir für eine Woche nach Thailand fliegen. Dort können wir bei den Partnern in Bangkok unterkommen. Zwar müssten wir uns selbstständig versorgen, doch zumindest für die Übernachtung ist gesorgt. Und dann können wir am folgenden Wochenende nach Hanoi fliegen und unsere Reise wie geplant fortsetzen. Fun fact: Die beiden Flüge von Mandalay über Bangkok nach Hanoi sind günstiger als der eine Flug von Rangun nach Hanoi.

Nachdem ich die erste Panik runterschluckt habe, finde ich das sogar ziemlich toll. Dann können wir nochmal etwas Besonderes sehen.

Today Valentina called me to tell me that there is a problem. A problem? We haven't even left Germany yet.
Our contact person called to tell her that due to the current, well, disturbances it is very important to leave Myanmar within 28 day. Our actual plan was to stay there for five weeks and then pay a fee for overlaying our visa. The nice woman at Myanmar's embassy told me that that wouldn't be a problem. Everybody does it that way. But it seems that it is a problem at the moment, though.
But our contact person found a loophole for us: We should leave Myanmar after 28 days and fly to Bangkok. We could stay there with our organisation's partners. We'd have to buy our own food, but we'd have a place to sleep. Also, I think, it's sort of a familiarisation week, so they might show us around. And after one week we would fly to Hanoi to continue our trip as planned.
Now that the first panic-ish moments are over I think that that's a great opportunity, because we can see and explore even more. Who wouldn't want to visit a fourth land ^.^
